Avandia is an oral diabetes medicine that helps control blood sugar levels. Avandia is for type 2 diabetes which is non-insulin dependent. In this article it was said that the government pasted a warning on this diabetes drug which tells patients that this drug may increase or not increase the risk of heart attacks. Although FDA is not sure is Avandia is riskier than other type 2 diabetes drugs. The FDA explained what was happening in a black box which is "the most severe type of warning" of the drug. Although it remains an open question if Avandia causes heart problems or not. In the article it says, "Avandia may be associated with myocardial ischemic events such as angina or myocardial infarction". Meaning that it may be associated with chest pains or a heart attacks. On the other hand, study suggests that Avandia can even help diabetics live longer compared to other type 2 drugs.

I think that people with type 2 diabetes should be aware of what they are taking and making sure that they understand what is on the label. Importantly look for warnings and side effects that may happen while taking this drug. Avandia helps control blood sugar by "increasing the body's sensitivity to insulin." There are so many drugs out there that can really affect your health. Even though studies aren't completely sure about this controversy, I think people taking this drug should still be aware of different side effects and precautions.
