Mark Twain's "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" caused so much controversy throughout the years, until now. The novel's main character, Huck Finn, uses stealing and lying to get what he wants. The book also contains the n-word about 210 times throughout the book, most of the time, it is used by the main character as he narrates his adventures. Is the reason for Huck's behavior is to represent Twain's perspective? Or does Twin use Huck to show the right and wrongs of his generation?

The message that is sent throughout the novel is you have to work hard to get what you want or to make changes in your life. In the novel both Huck and Jim, Widow Douglas's slave, ran away from their society and journeyed through the Mississippi River. The river symbolizes freedom and independence from the society that Huck and Jim comes from. Alone on the raft, Huck and Jim are free to do whatever they want and doesn't have to answer to anyone. Huck escapes from the rules and regulations of Widow Douglas and from his abusive father. Jim also escapes from the hands of Widow Douglas to be a free man. Like the river, flowing away from everything, Huck and Jim changes their attitudes toward each other. For example, when the two saw a boat with a corpse in it, Jim didn't let Huck look at it even if it was his father. Jim also stood as a fatherly type of adult to Huck while they were alone on the river.

As the novel progresses, the river becomes something else from what Huck thought as the river brought the both of them in contact with criminals. While traveling down the river, the two ran into two con artists, the duke and the dauphin. Huck and Jim experiences tricks and scams that the con artists do to the ignorant public. It is obvious that the scams and lies that the con artists did was wrong for they hurt a number of innocent people. As Huck and Jim travel down the river with the con artists, Huck had to lie so many times to protect both himself and Jim because the society would be in dismay if they found out that Huck hid a runaway slave. Although Huck's lies aren't the lies that hurt anyone, it's for his and Jim's own good. In the novel Huck and the con artists also stole things from other people. The con artists stole people's money when they ripped their audience off from their play. On the other hand, Huck stole the money that the con artists took from a family in order to give it back to the right person and to turn the duke and the dauphin in. Huck's lies and stealing's were for the better and not for the worst for he was just trying to protect both himself and Jim.

In the end of the novel, the river returns Huck and Jim back into society. Huck escaped from the "sivilization" of the Widow Douglas, but when he returned, Aunt Sally wanted to take him in and sivilize him again. Jim wanted to get away from the Widow Douglas and be a free man. When Jim was turned in, he became what he wanted to be, free. the truth is that he has been a free man ever since he ran away. As the novel ended, it turned out to be that Huck realized that Jim is a worthy human being.

Mark Twain and Huck Finn's perspectives are the same. Twain showed the changes in Huck as he comes to realize that Jim shouldn't be looked down because he is not white. All of Huck's lies and behaviors changed the society around him. If nothing is done, nothing will change. Twain's message through Huck is to work hard to achieve or change something.

Precipitous- extremely or impassably steep.
This cliff is obviously pretty steep. The cliff on the beach is precipitous.

Deduct- to take away, as from a sum or amount.
When you burn money of whatsoever, you take away from the total amount. Deduct doesn't have to relate with money. It could be a deduction from a collection or nature (like how the wildfires took away many houses and some lives). Burning money deducts from your total savings.

Accord- to be in agreement or harmony; agree.
During the California Wildfires 2007, evacuation centers were in agreement of what evacuees need for the time being. Like the Qualcomm Stadium, volunteers and other San Diegans helped evacuees to get what they need by donating. Everyone worked together in harmony to create a calm a peaceful evacuation center for these evacuees. Volunteers accord while helping evacuees at evacutation centers.

Definitions:
accord- to be in agreement or harmony; agree.

plagiarize- to take and use ideas, passages, etc., from (another's work) by plagiarism.
objectivity- intentness on objects external to the mind.
precipitous- extremely or impassably steep.
recapitulate- to review by a brief summary, as at the end of a speech or discussion; summarize.
reciprocate- to give, feel, etc., in return.

Tranquility - a moment of calmness and peacefulness.
In my opinion, there are different perspectives of tranquility. I find tranquility most in nature, especially the ocean. When I went to the Philippines, the beach was filled with flowers and plants. The ocean created quiet and soothing music while I watched the sunset. It was a relaxing and tranquil scenery.

Tundra - one of the vast, nearly level, treeless plains of the arctic regions of Europe, Asia, and North America.
A huge region of nothing. There are no trees and everything is flat. Animals have to adapt to the harsh weathers of the tundra, the shortage of food and predators. The tundra is similar to the desert receiving low amounts of precipitation.

Repose -the state of reposing or being at rest; rest; sleep.
When I think of reposing, a picture of my pug always comes to mind or a baby sleeping peacefully. I think reposing can be similar to tranquility because sleeping can put you in a tranquil setting.

Definitions:
flourish - to be successful; prosper.
guerilla - a member of a small group of fighters who make sudden attacks on an enemy.
renegade - a person who deserts a party or cause for another.
repose - the state of reposing or being at rest; rest; sleep.
stereotype - A conventional, formulaic, and oversimplified conception, opinion, or image.
symbiosis - the relation between two different species of organisms that are interdependent; each gains benefits from the other.
tariff - an official list or table showing the duties or customs imposed by a government on imports or exports.
tempo - characteristic rate, rhythm, or pattern of work or activity.
tranquility - a moment of calmness and peacefulness.
tumult - violent and noisy commotion or disturbance of a crowd or mob; uproar.
tundra - one of the vast, nearly level, treeless plains of the arctic regions of Europe, Asia, and North America.
unanimous - of one mind; in complete agreement; agreed.

For this assignment, we had to choose a picture from one of Bill Sullivan's Turnstile Photographs and create a creative writing on what that certain person is doing or what is going on with their life. These are pictures of strangers going through the turnstile from a subway in New York. Here is my story about this specific character.

After a long day from school, this woman, who goes by the name Lauren, gets ready to go home. As she stepped out of the subway, Lauren felt as if something was to go terribly wrong. All of a sudden she hears a voice screaming from afar. She walks toward the exit and the screaming keeps on getting louder and louder. Suddenly she felt cold air caressing her face, but there was no wind coming from the city. Lauren tried to ignore the screaming and got into a cab. While on the way home, she was busy reading her philosophy novel, studying for an upcoming exam. The screaming stopped for about an hour and Lauren started to relax. It was traffic on Time Square, so Lauren decided to take a nap. She closed her philosophy novel and placed her reading glasses on her head. As she was falling asleep, the screaming returned again. This time the scream was getting louder and louder that it made Lauren deaf. She opened her eyes right away and looked around the cab and all she saw were cars surrounding the cab. Lauren took a deep breath and looked down to where she placed her philosophy novel. She decided to read a bit to make the screaming stop. As she opened the book to the page she last read, the words began to scramble around and before she knew it, that page of the book was a whole different story. It was about the dead coming back to life in search of finding somebody to bring with them to the other life. All of a sudden, Lauren heard the screaming coming out from her left ear. As she turned around, the screaming stopped and Lauren sat there quietly. As she looked out the window, she saw a woman coming towards her. "You must follow me," the woman whispered into the air. Out if nowhere, Lauren saw the past of the woman. She saw how the woman's child was taken away from her and how the woman died. That's when Lauren realized that this woman is trying to bring her with her to the other life, in place of her child that was stolen. As she observed the strange woman's past, Lauren took a deep breath. When Lauren's cab arrived at her house, the cab driver turned around and found Lauren sitting stiffly looking out the window.
