From the massive earthquake that strucked China last Monday, death tolls are increasing to 50,000. In this article, it stated that thousands of children were in class when the quake happened and many of thier schools collapsed on top of them. The aftershock of this quake leaves many parents devastated. Not only must thousands of parents suddenly cope with the loss of a child, but many must cope with the loss of their only child. In 1979, China came up with the one-child policy that limits most couples to one child to control a hugh population growth. As rescuers helped pull out bodies from the rubbish, parents await to identify whether it was their child or not. However once they realized it was their child, especially those with only one child, they obviously collapsed in greif.

This was obviously a massive earthquake killing about 50,000 people and ruining buildings and structures. However with the one-child policy, so many parents are in pain. Instead of losing one of their children, some might have loss their only child. With the one-child policy, it limits a couple to have only one child although if they want more children, they would have to pay $1,000 for each child born after the first. I mean I understand why there was such a policy, but of course following the policy makes it hard for parents with only one child.
